Mutitu Factory, established in 1963, is in Kirinyaga County on Mount Kenya’s southern slopes. It serves 1,250 smallholder farmers, each with ~½ acre of land growing coffee, macadamia, beans, and corn.

The factory promotes sustainability by using soak pits for wastewater management and encouraging tree planting. Coffee is handpicked, pulped, and undergoes a two-stage fermentation and soaking process, enhancing acidity and flavour complexity.

After washing, beans dry for 5–10 days before milling and storage. The factory also provides training programs to help farmers improve crop quality and adopt sustainable farming practices.
